Geely cars in Pakistan: models, prices and booking explained
Geely cars in Pakistan: what Bestway has confirmed on the EX2, EX5 and Starray EM-i, and what is still unknown about prices, booking and import duties.
Why it matters
Geely adds another Chinese brand, and two more battery-only cars, to a Pakistani market where import duties decide what buyers pay. Until Bestway publishes prices, any figure online is a guess.
Geely cars are now officially on sale in Pakistan in name, but nobody can buy one yet. Bestway Group launched the Chinese brand in Karachi on Saturday, October 24, 2026, with three models: the EX2 and EX5 electric cars and the Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid. Prices and a booking date have not been announced.
Quick answer: Geely is sold in Pakistan through Bestway Automotive, its sole authorized distributor. The first cars will be imported fully built from China, with local assembly planned at a former Proton plant at Port Qasim, Karachi. Prices, booking dates and final Pakistan specifications are still to come from official channels.
The launch gave buyers a lineup, a distributor and a plan. It did not give them a price tag. That gap matters, because figures for Geely cars already circulate on Pakistani car listing sites, and none of them comes from Bestway or Geely.
This guide sets out what the companies have confirmed, what they have only proposed, and what is still unknown. Further down, it explains the tariff and electric vehicle (EV) policy that will shape the final prices, and where Geely fits among the Chinese brands already competing in Pakistan.
Which Geely models are coming to Pakistan?
Three models were unveiled at the launch, according to Dawn and Business Recorder. Two run on batteries alone. The third pairs a petrol engine with a battery that can be charged from a plug.
| Model | Type | Overseas battery and range (not Pakistan specs) |
|---|---|---|
| Geely EX2 | Compact electric hatchback | 39.4 kWh; up to 410 km (CLTC) |
| Geely EX5 | Electric SUV | 60.2 kWh; up to 530 km (CLTC) or 450 km (WLTP) |
| Geely Starray EM-i | Plug-in hybrid SUV | 18.4 kWh; petrol engine plus electric motor |

The battery and range figures come from versions sold in other countries. CLTC is China’s test cycle and WLTP is the one used in Europe and New Zealand; the same car scores lower on WLTP, which is why the EX5 shows two numbers. Bestway has said final Pakistan specifications will be released through official channels, Business Recorder reported.
One detail differs between reports. Dawn described the Starray EM-i as using range-extended EV technology, while Business Recorder and Geely’s own New Zealand site call it a plug-in hybrid. In a plug-in hybrid, the petrol engine can drive the wheels; in a range extender, it only charges the battery. Bestway has not published its Pakistan specifications.
The EX5 already sells in Europe, Australia, Southeast Asia and Latin America, Profit reported. In New Zealand, Geely lists its 0 to 100 km/h time at 6.9 seconds and fast charging from 30% to 80% in 20 minutes.
What has Bestway confirmed, and what is still unknown?
Bestway Automotive will handle sales and after-sales service, Dawn and Business Recorder reported. Several other points from the launch were described as plans or proposals rather than final terms.

The warranty and financing points come from Bestway’s launch statement as reported by Business Recorder. Bestway Group is a shareholder in UBL, one of Pakistan’s largest banks, which explains the financing link. No interest rates, down payments or loan terms have been published.
At a Lahore media briefing in September, Bestway said bookings were expected to open before the end of 2026, ProPakistani and The Express Tribune reported. That remains the only public guidance on timing.
Are the Geely prices on car websites official?
No. At the time of writing, neither Bestway nor Geely has released a Pakistan price for any model.
Some Pakistani car portals already list figures. One site shows the 2026 Geely EX5 at an “approximate price” of about Rs 6.8 million, alongside prices for Geely models that were not part of the launch at all, such as the Monjaro and Coolray. Those numbers are estimates by the site, not dealer prices, and they may bear little relation to what Bestway eventually charges.
PakWheels, the country’s largest car portal, lists the Starray EM-i as “Not Launched Yet” in its comparisons.
The final price will depend heavily on import taxes, which is where Pakistan’s auto policy comes in.
How the Bestway and Geely deal came together
The partnership changed shape between July and October.
- July 2026: Geely and Bestway signed an agreement at Geely’s headquarters in Hangzhou, China, naming Bestway as importer. Reports at the time mentioned two electric models, the EX5 and EX2, Profit reported.
- September 15, 2026: At a Lahore briefing, Bestway said three new-energy SUVs were coming, two electric and one hybrid, imported first as CBUs. It said it had acquired a CKD (completely knocked down) assembly plant.
- October 24, 2026: Bestway launched Geely in Karachi with the EX2, EX5 and Starray EM-i.
- By end of 2026: Bookings expected to open, according to Bestway in September.
- 2027: Bestway aims to have locally assembled Geely cars on the road, according to its launch statement.
The plant at Port Qasim, near Karachi’s port, was previously used to assemble Proton cars. Business Recorder reported it covers 24.71 acres with more than 403,000 square feet under roof and can assemble up to 25,000 vehicles a year.
Muhammad Irfan Anwar Sheikh, who heads Bestway’s non-banking businesses in Pakistan, told reporters in Lahore that Bestway had refunded Proton customers who were still waiting for money and had cleared government taxes tied to the plant, ProPakistani reported. “For us, this partnership is a long-term commitment to Pakistan,” he said, according to The Express Tribune.
Bestway also said it has invested more than $350 million in Pakistan and created 20,000 jobs over the last three years, Dawn reported. The group’s Pakistani businesses include Bestway Cement and UBL.
Geely itself is one of China’s largest carmakers. It sold more than 3.02 million vehicles in 2025, including 1.69 million new-energy vehicles, The Express Tribune reported.
Why does importing first make Geely cars more expensive?
Pakistan taxes a fully built imported car far more heavily than a car assembled locally from imported kits. A CBU arrives ready to drive. A CKD kit arrives in parts and is put together in a Pakistani factory, which pays lower duties in exchange for local jobs and, over time, local parts.
That gap is the main reason brands start with imports to test demand, then move to local assembly once volumes justify the cost.
The rules are in flux. Under the National Tariff Policy, the government has proposed cutting duties on CBU vehicles to 15%, Dawn reported in August. The Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), which represents local assemblers, has pushed back. It asked the prime minister to keep at least a 40% tariff gap between imported and locally made cars, and warned of plant closures if duties fall too fast.
PAMA also said Pakistan’s assemblers use less than half of their installed capacity of 500,000 vehicles a year, and that about 45,000 imported CBU vehicles a year take nearly 18% of the domestic market. The Express Tribune, citing industry data, put utilization below 50%, down from above 80% less than a decade ago.
The government’s long-term Auto Policy 2026-31, which will set those duties, was still pending when Bestway briefed reporters in September, The Express Tribune reported. Until it is approved, nobody outside government can say exactly what an imported Geely will pay at the port.
Key figure: Pakistan’s car assemblers run below 50% of an installed capacity of 500,000 vehicles a year, according to PAMA, which is why the duty gap between imported and local cars is so contested.
What does Pakistan’s EV policy offer?
The government launched its National Electric Vehicle Policy 2025-30 on June 19, 2025. Its headline goal is for 30% of all new vehicles sold in Pakistan to be electric by 2030, the Press Information Department said.
The policy’s money so far goes mainly to two- and three-wheelers: an initial Rs 9 billion subsidy for 2025-26 covering 116,053 electric bikes and 3,171 electric rickshaws. For carmakers, the policy keeps customs duty and sales tax exemptions on EV parts, and says the tariff facility under the earlier auto policy will continue until 2026 before being phased out by 2030.
It also promises 40 new charging stations on motorways, roughly 105 km apart, and charging points in new building codes. Charging matters for Geely’s two battery-only models. Bestway said at the launch that it plans a nationwide charging network through Bestway Renewable Technologies, Business Recorder reported, though no locations or dates were given.
Where does Geely fit among Chinese car brands in Pakistan?
Geely arrives late to a crowded field. About 17 vehicle assemblers now operate in Pakistan, The Express Tribune reported, after a wave of Chinese and other new entrants joined the Japanese and Korean brands that long dominated the market.
Haval is already a volume seller. Sazgar Engineering, which assembles Haval and Tank SUVs locally, sold 2,720 of them in June 2026, PakWheels reported from PAMA figures. BYD is building local assembly with Mega Motor Company, a subsidiary of Hub Power Company. At the Pakistan Auto Parts Show in September, BYD said the Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid would be its first locally assembled model, with production targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026, ProPakistani reported.
That puts the Starray EM-i in direct competition with locally assembled plug-in hybrids before Geely’s own assembly line starts.
The Express Tribune noted that some earlier Chinese entrants struggled to keep sales going once buyers weighed after-sales service, spare parts supply and resale value, and that some smaller brands scaled back. Bestway’s answer, so far, is a proposed long warranty, bank financing through UBL and a dealer network it has said will be nationwide.
The broader market is recovering. Car sales rose 43% year on year in the first quarter of the 2026-27 fiscal year (July to September), Business Recorder reported, which analysts linked to an improving economy.
Watch for: Bestway’s official price list and booking date, the Pakistan specifications for each model, and the federal cabinet’s decision on the Auto Policy 2026-31, which will set import duties for the CBU cars Geely is selling first.
